Marzocchi Suspension Fork Recall
IMPORTANT RECALL NOTICERE: Marzocchi Recall Model XC50, XC51, XC250, XC400, XC500 Fork Crowns Produced in 1992 and 1993 P & A Ref: RVP/FJC/8713 Dear Sir or Madam: Marzocchi S.P.A., in conjunction with the United States Consumer Products Safety Commission, and with the assistance of Marzocchi Suspension Center, is conducting a voluntary recall campaign of the above-identified fork crowns. A fork crown subject to this recall (a "recalled fork crown:) may fracture under certain conditions, resulting in a loss of bicycle control and, possibly, serious injury to the rider. The following letter will detail the procedure that must be followed to successfully complete the recall. 1. Immediately stop the distribution and sale of "recalled fork crowns" and any bicycle equipped with a "recalled fork crown. " Both original equipment (" OE") and after-market fork crown crowns are subject to this recall. As you are aware, and OE fork crown has the steerer tube pressed into the fork crown. An after- market fork crown has the steerer tube secured to the fork crown by two bolts which compress a portion of the fork crown around the steerer tube. 1a. A "recalled fork crown" has a six-digit serial number printed on the back side of the brake arch. The last two digits indicate the year of manufacture. Any fork crown with a serial number ending in ---92 or -93 is a "recalled fork crown." 1b. A "recalled fork crown" may also be identified by its appearance. There are two bolts on each side of a fork crown (a total of four bolts) which clamp the right and left stantion tubes to the fork crown. The heads of all these bolts are visible. If a fork crown is turned over and the ends of all four bolts (two on each side), then it is not a "recalled fork crown." 2. Please forward to this office the following information as soon as possible: (1) the number of "recalled fork crowns" currently in your possession and (2) the number of "recalled fork crowns" you have sold to distributors, retailers, consumers, etc. 3. VERY IMPORTANT: Please provide this office with the names and addresses of all distributors, retailers, consumers, etc. to whom you have sold a "recalled fork crown " or any other person who may be in possession of a "recalled fork crown." 4. Return all "recalled fork crowns" in your possession directly to Bryson Martin at Marzocchi Suspension Center, 28150 Crocker Avenue, Suite 221, Valencia, California 91355, telephone number (800) 229-5579. "recalled fork crowns" will be replaced with re-designed fork crowns at no charge to you. The costs of shipping of "recalled fork crowns" to Mr. Martin and the cost of shipping replacement fork crowns to you will be paid by Marzocchi Suspension Center. Please provide Mr. Martin with a copy of the invoice reflecting the shipping costs of "recalled fork crowns" to Mr. Martin 5. Marzocchi intends that all "recalled fork crowns" that are installed on bicycles be replaced with replacement fork crowns. 5a. If you obtain possession of a bicycle equipped with an after-market "recalled fork crown." Marzocchi Suspension Center will provide you with $10.00 in credit towards the purchase of any Marzocchi product in the future for each after- market "recalled fork crown" you replace that was installed on a bicycle. 5b. If you obtain possession of a bicycle equipped with an original equipment ("OE") "recalled fork crown, " please do Not replace the OE "recalled fork crown." Please remove from the bicycle the OE "recalled fork crown," with the steerer tube still pressed into the OE "recalled fork crown," and return them both to Mr. Martin for replacement. After Mr. Martin has returned to you replacements for the OE "recalled fork crown" and steerer tube, please re-install the replacements on the bicycle. Marzocchi Suspension Center will provide you with $10.00 in credit towards the purchase of any Marzocchi product in the future for each OE "recalled fork crown" and pressed-in steerer tube you return and re-install. 6. Marzocchi will attempt to contact all consumers who have purchased a "recalled fork crown" to advise them of this recall. However, please do not hesitate to contact consumers through your own efforts as well. Consumers will be advised to go to their nearest authorized Marzocchi dealer to have their "recalled fork crown" replaced. Please effect the replacement of all after-market "recalled fork crowns" as discussed in paragraph 5a above. In addition, please effect the replacement of all OE "recalled fork crowns" as discussed in paragraph 5b above. 7. Marzocchi will be providing you with a "point of purchase" poster to be conspicuously placed in your store which advises consumers of this recall. This poster should be displayed for at least 120 days and will advise consumers to replace their "recalled fork crowns." Please effect the replacement of all after-market "recalled fork crowns" as discussed in paragraph 5a above. In addition, please effect the replacement of all OE "recalled fork crowns" as discussed in paragraph 5b above. These steps should insure that all "recalled fork crowns" will be removed from the market. Should you have any suggestions, comments or questions, please do not hesitate to contact the undersigned. Sincerely yours, Bryson Martin Marzocchi Suspension Center |
