Girvin Tech BulletinVECTOR 1 FORK STEERER TUBECAUTIONIn the event of a crash, there could be damage to your Vector Fork that may not be visible. Damaged forks can be extremely dangerous, and can result in failure during use and severe injuries. After a crash, take your fork to an authorized Girvin / Pro-Flex dealer or other qualified technician to verify its structural integrity. The steerer tubes on pre 1995 Vector 1 forks can fail if subjected to a heavy frontal impact. Typically, the impact necessary to damage the steerer tube will also cause other component damage such as: bent fork legs, ovalized headset bearing cups, and damaged stems. While steerer tubes may fail to the point of being unusable during a massive crash, a bigger concern is the possibility of undetected steerer tube damage from a lesser impact. Any fork which has been subjected to a frontal impact should be inspected before riding further. Any indication of headset looseness, bent stem, or bent steerer tube could be evidence of internal damage. In such a case, it is imperative that the steerer tube and stem be inspected carefully before riding the bicycle further.
