American Classic Hub Skewers
AMERICAN CLASSIC STEEL SKEWERSThe American Classic skewer set, released in 1985, was the first aftermarket skewer set that actually made an attempt to reduce the overall skewer weight, when hub manufacturers could have cared less. This set reached intense popularity because they are built using aluminum where standard hub makers used heavier steel alloy. The lever is made of machined steel rod that is painted Black. The cup housing the internal cam/lever is machined from aluminum rod. A removable cir-clip holds the cam/lever, skewer rod and housing together. The nut is machined of aluminum, tapped with threads, and has hole drilled through it for an inserted plastic rod. The plastic rod is drilled, leaving a hole for the steel skewer rod to tightly thread through, the plastic rod acts as a locknut. The plastic rod protrudes from each side, and gives your fingers the grip needed to screw the skewer into it. The two volute springs are made from round spring steel wire. The weight of the front American Classic steel skewer is 56.5 grams, the 135mm mountain rear skewer weighs 60 grams. The American Classic skewers are available with the aluminum pieces anodized Blue, Black, Lavender, Red or Silver. AC skewers-pair (Color-B-BK-L-R-S) $ Price in Catalog
AMERICAN CLASSIC Ti SKEWERSThe newest version of the American Classic skewer set has Titanium skewer rods to drop the weight still further. The steel lever is the heaviest part of this skewer yet it's only 5.5mm in diameter, and probably doesn't weigh appreciably more than the somewhat larger aluminum ones used by others. The lever is cadmium plated and left a Silver color so it can be distinguished at sight as the Ti model. The weight of the front American Classic Ti skewer is 46 grams, the 135mm mountain rear skewer weighs 48.5 grams. The shorter rear for 130mm road rear hubs weighs 48 grams. The American Classic Ti skewers are available with the aluminum pieces anodized Blue, Black, Red or Silver. Ti - pair(Color-B-BK-R-S) $ Price in Catalog |
