The Vetta C-10 has six of the most important functions for the average cyclist, using single line Liquid Crystal Display. All distance readings can be displayed in Miles Per Hour or Kilometers Per Hour, though we will speak in MPH. It has a speedometer that will display from 4.5 to 99.5 MPH with an accuracy of .5 MPH. The speedometer is accessed by pressing the right button in any mode, and starts and stops automatically with any forward wheel movement. It has a stopwatch that runs up to 59 minutes 59 seconds and then resets. The stopwatch starts and stops through the left button and can be reset to zero manually, by holding the left button down for two seconds. The stopwatch, once started will work in the background no matter what function is displayed. It records trip distance, through a tripmeter, of up to 999.9 miles. The tripmeter is activated automatically when the wheel is in motion, it is reset through the left button, and it's resetting also resets the maximum speed function, because the maximum speed is really the maximum speed for "this" trip.
Linked to the tripmeter is a maximum speed indicator, which displays your fastest speed over the length of your trip. The C-10 has an odometer that records total distance traveled up to 6215 miles. The odometer is activated automatically with wheel movement. The C-10 has a 12 hour digital clock. To preserve the battery life, the C-10 will blank out the display if there is no wheel movement for 6 minutes, pressing either of the buttons will restore the display.
This computer will not display average speed over trip distance. It comes with instructions in English only, and will perform all these functions for any wheel diameter, but there is a quick entry table for wheels that have these diameters; 20", 22", 24", 26", or wheels with mounted tires of these dimensions; 700 x 25C, 27 x 1", 27 x 1 1/4", 700 x 38C.
The C-10 uses a 33" long wire to front-mounted, single magnet, wheel sensor, and comes with sensor mounting brackets to accommodate both 3/4" and 1" diameter fork blades. A mounting bracket for oversized 1 1/4" diameter blades is available separately. The C-10 uses a 1.5 volt 186/LR43 watch battery. The computer head itself is mounted on a quick releasable shoe on the handlebar, and is removed or re-installed in a moment. The C-10 is made in Hong Kong, with all necessary hardware weighs just 41 grams, and comes in Black only. $ Price in Catalog
In November of 1993, deliveries to the US of the C-15 began. The C-15 uses the same case, with the same exterior, and outward appearance of the C-10. It has however, a 2 line Liquid Crystal Display, has the C-20 "Pace" feature, and is said to be capable of "freezing" and retaining in the display the elapsed time and speed at the moment. The instructions for this "freeze" function, aren't included in the instruction booklet that comes with the unit. We called Orleander USA, Inc. in Van Nuys, Ca. which handles all the transactions regarding importation and distribution sale of all Vetta labeled in the USA to learn how to activate this function.
The answering operator said that holding both buttons down for a two second period would activate the display "freeze" function. The operator said that she had been asked for these instructions, "just a few times", probably because Orleander does such a good job of removing themselves from the end consumer. We've tried it several times weren't initially able to activate this "freeze" function. Several days later we tried again, and were able to "freeze" the screen as long we held both buttons down. This function should be useful at the end of a specific timed ride, (like a time trial), to retain the measurements, since the C-15 is an auto stop/start computer only, and turning the wheel continues to update and change all the displayed information. The readings at the finish line, would be lost as the wheel kept revolving.
Holding down both buttons with one hand while trying to brake with other, at the end a race, may not be very safe. The C-15 does however have many normal and easy to use functions. The current speed is displayed on the the upper line in 7.5mm high characters and rounded to the nearest 1/2 MPH. A stopwatch is displayed on the lower line in 5mm high characters. It increments in whole seconds up to 10 hours when it resets automatically. It's tripmeter is displayed on the lower line and will record the distance of a single trip up to a 1000 mile distance when it will reset.
Average speed is displayed on the upper line, accurate to the tenth MPH. While the Average speed is displayed, the lower line displays the odometer function, showing the total distance covered since the computer was installed. Maximum speed is displayed on the upper line, to the tenth MPH, and on the lower line at the same time a twelve hour clock displays the hour and minute. Like the Vetta C-20 which follows, the C-15 has a "comparator" function, which compares your present speed, to your average speed for the trip. If your present speed if faster than your average a "+" appears to the right of the momentary speed on the upper line display. Should it be below, then a "-" is displayed showing that you have fallen below your trip average speed. To further define where the C-15 is different from the other models, it has the "comparator", average speed, and maybe "freeze frame" which the C-10 doesn't, however it doesn't have the cadence function which the C-20 does.
The mounting and all other functions, including the auto start/stop, of the C-15 are the same as the C-10, in fact any of the computer heads will work without the cadence function on any installed mounting shoe. The C-15 has a 33" long wire harness with the sensor attached to the bike via a sturdy, custom, adjustable clamp.
The C-15 relies on a 1.5 volt 186/LR43 watch battery. The computer head itself is mounted on a quick releasable shoe on the handlebar, and is removed or re-installed in just a moment. Made in Hong Kong, it has a total on the bike weight of 46 grams and comes in an Opaque Black case, or a translucent plastic case in Blue, Grey, Lavender, Red, or Neon Yellow. $ Price in Catalog
The Vetta C-20 is a 9 function computer, using a two line Liquid Crystal Display. All the C-20 distance readings can be displayed in Miles Per Hour or Kilometers Per Hour, we'll describe it in MPH. It has a speedometer, which is a top line display, letting you know your instantaneous speed from 3.5 up to 99.5 MPH, with + or - 1/4 MPH accuracy. Clock functions are bottom line display and the C-20 has both a 12 hour digital clock, and a stop watch, which you start and stop by pressing the left button. The stopwatch will time up 9 hours, 59 min., 59 secs, and then resets to zero. The C-20 has a bottom line display, tripmeter, that resets after 999.9 miles traveled, and incorporated with the tripmeter is a top line display, average speed function which records, updates and displays your average speed over the length of your "trip" or ride.
The C-20 integrates with the average speed function, a "Pace" display, present when you view the speedometer. The Pace function displays a "+" plus, to the upper right of your present speed if you are going faster, at the moment, than your trip average speed. If you are going slower than your trip average speed a "-" minus sign is displayed. While C-20 tripmeter is functioning the C-20 keeps track of your fastest average speed, or maximum speed per trip, which is to line function. The C-20 odometer records total distance traveled, up to 99,999 miles, and is activated automatically, like the other functions, with any wheel movement, through it's auto start/stop feature. To preserve battery life, the C-20 will blank out the display if there is no wheel movement for 6 minutes, pressing any buttons or wheel movement "wakes" it up again. The C-20 uses a 58" wire to a rear-mounted, single magnet, wheel sensor and the sensor's mounting bracket will tightly clamp around any chainstay, up to 1 1/2" in diameter. The C-20 also uses a 48" longwire, to a separate chainstay-mounted, single magnetic sensor, for it's cadence function.
Cadence uses a magnet mounted on the crank arm, the way there is a magnet on the wheel for speed functions. Your pedal cadence is displayed as a bottom line function with a range from 40 to 240 RPM. It comes with instructions in English only, and will perform these functions for any wheel diameter, but there is a quick entry table like the one used in the C-10. The C-20 uses a 1.5 volt 186/LR43 watch battery. The computer head itself is mounted on a quick releasable shoe on the handlebar, and is removed or re-installed in a moment. The C-20, made in Hong Kong, with all necessary hardware, for both speed and cadence functionality, weighs just 72 grams, and comes in Black. $ Price in Catalog
The C-300 is Vetta's, 7 function wireless unit. It uses a single-magnet, wheel sensor mounted on the front fork, and transmits to the computer head using low-powered, radio broadcast signals. Using a single line, Liquid Crystal Display, all distance readings can be displayed in Miles Per Hour, or Kilometers Per Hour, though we will speak in MPH. The C-300 has a speedometer that displays your current speed with a range of 0 to 99.5 MPH with an accuracy of + or - 1/4 MPH. The C-300 has a stopwatch that will runs up to 59 minutes, 59 seconds, then resets to 0.
It has a tripmeter, which is activated automatically, when there is wheel movement, has a range of 999 miles before it resets to zero, or it can be reset manually by pressing the left button for 2 seconds. The C-300's odometer displays the total distance traveled up to 9999 miles, where it then "rolls over" and resets to 0 or can be reset manually by removing the battery. The C-300 has a 12 hour clock with a flashing second indicator. Your maximum speed during a "trip" is kept and displayed, this is reset by resetting your tripmeter. The C-300 tracks your average speed for any "trip"less than twenty hours, and is available through the display. It is resettable with the tripmeter, or will begin again at 20 hours 1 minute. To preserve batteries, the display will automatically blank out after 6 minutes, if the wheel is not moving, but will reappear with the touch of either button or any wheel movement.
The C-300 instructions are printed in English only, and will perform all these functions on any wheel diameter, a quick entry table makes set up for all common sizes easy. The Transmitter is front wheel mounted and comes with mounting to fit up to a 1 1/4" diameter fork blade. The transmitter uses a E23A, MS21, or V23 12 volt camera battery. The computer head uses a CR 2032, 3 volt Lithium camera battery. Black only, made in Hong Kong, the C-300, with quick release mounting bracket, and all necessary hardware weighs 72 grams. The C-300 is no longer made. They have been superceded by the C-500. We sold the of them for $49.99
The C-500 Wireless has a dual-line display that shows: Current Speed, Maximum Speed, Average Speed, Trip Distance, Total Distance, Stop Watch and Clock. It also includes a speed comparator or "Pace feature", if you are going faster than the average speed it displays a "+" under the average speed shows a "-". The C-500 has an on the bike weight of 61 grams. Black only $ Price in Catalog
