This 327.5 gram chain is designed to work with any Hyperglide freewheel or cassette. The HG50 is Shimano's economical narrow Hyperglide chain. It has 114 1/2" x 3/32" links, with nickel finished link pins and rollers incorporated into its bushingless design. The cambered outer link plates widen between the rollers with beveled inner surfaces on the top and bottom. Recommended as an original or replacement chain for STX and Alivio groups as well as the Road RX100. It will, however, work in any HyperGlide application, and will replace all HG chains. STI compatible, all Black. We have seen this chain labeled as made in Taiwan and in Japan. $Price in Catalog
The HG-70 is a 310 gram, narrow chain that will work with any freewheel or Shimano Hyperglide cassette. It has the cambered outer link plates with the beveled inner surfaces that all Hyperglide chains have. The HG-90 is a narrow chain that will work with any freewheel or Shimano Hyperglide cassette. It weighs 331.5 grams, which is more than the HG70, in part, because it has 116 links instead of 114, (if the HG70 had 116 links, it would weigh about 315.5 grams) The remaining added weight is probably from the plated outer link plates. The HG90 provides quick, precise, quiet shifting. The outer link plates are cambered with beveled inner surfaces for ease in centering on chainring ring teeth. It is commonly used as original equipment in Ultegra and Deore XT drivetrains, but will work with any system, HyperGlide or not. This chain is said to be heat treated to give it a long extended life. It has a Black finish on the roller plate and a Silver finish on the pin link plate. Made in Japan $ Price in Catalog
The same as above except the color, the HG-91 is all silver. The HG-91 is a narrow chain that works with any freewheel or Shimano Hyperglide cassette. It also weighs 331.5 grams, and has 116 links producing a quick, precise, quiet shifting. It is used in Ultegra and Deore XT drivetrains, or any Hyperglide application. This chain is also said to be heat treated for long life. It has a silver finish on both the roller and pin link plates. Notice how much more the all Silver model costs. Made in Japan. $ Price in Catalog
This is Shimano's best chain. It is a narrow, premium racing chain using heat treated plates, with a nickel finish to cut down the friction, and uses precision, boron finished link pins. These treatments are used to make an extremely long wearing chain. The 7401 is a narrow chain that works with any freewheel or cassette whether Hyperglide or not. It is the chain that comes as original equipment with the XTR Mountain or Dura-Ace Road group of parts. At only 335 grams, this 116 link chain should improve the shift performance of any bike. Both the roller and pin link plates have a Silver Nickel plated finish. Made in Japan. $ Price in Catalog
