The XT post is Shimano's beefy mountain bike post that uses a traditional micro-adjusting design even though it's unconventionally styled. The clamp and head pieces are of cast aluminum which are painted Black, mounted on a heat treated Cro- moly steel tube section. The upper clamp piece is cast and threaded for the fastening bolt to anchor to. Each side of the upper clamp piece has 1 1/2" inches of contact with the saddle rail. The lower clamp piece is cast aluminum with a hole drilled through the middle for the fastening bolt to reach up to the upper clamp piece. The lower clamp piece also has 1 1/2" of full contact to the bottom of the saddle rail. The head piece is cast aluminum, hollowed on the bottom slightly, with knurls on the top, providing a textured surface for the clamp assembly to seat to.
There is an oblong hole milled through the head piece making a variable base for the clamps to "rock" on for saddle angle adjustments. A steel bolt with a 6mm allen head passes up through the head piece and lower clamp piece, threading into the upper clamp piece to hold the saddle and the entire assembly together. The head piece is pressed into the Cro-moly steel tubing section to a depth of 1 1/4" securely joining the two pieces. With the clamp perpendicular to the tubing section, the center of rail to end of tube length is 327mm. The weight of a 26.6mm XT post is 321 grams. The Shimano XT post is made in Japan, and is available in, 26.6mm, 26.8mm, 27.0mm, and 27.2mm sizes.
Not available in the United States any longer, probably because domestic ones are less expensive, we sold this post for $41.99
