The Nuke carbon front is made using a thinwall 6061 T-6 aluminum tube as the core of the center of it's three-piece design. Over the aluminum tube a braided carbon composite is wrapped, that's covered with epoxy resin, and then air cured to hardness. The epoxy nature of the resin is Ultra-Violet ray protected so there is no breakdown of the materials to sun exposure. The carbon fiber core permits a small degree of flex which translates into a smoother ride, though it's extremely strong. The hub flanges are machined from billet aluminum that is turned on a lathe to provide it's shape. The flange is then bored from both ends to permit the core to slide from the inner side and the sealed bearing cartridge from the outer side. The final step in the flange is drilling of the desired hole pattern. The flange pieces are pressed onto the center tube, with the precision sealed bearing cartridges (NMB RI-14386, Singapore) pressed into each flange piece from the outside. The axle passes clear through the entire bearing, flange, and core assembly. At each end of the axle, is a machined aluminum collar that slides to the bearing and is cinched down by a tiny recessed hex head set screw. These locking collars correctly space the hub, and partially hold the entire assembly rigidly together, though the axle fits tightly through the bearings. The hollow axle has a 9.5mm outer diameter except at the last 5mm of each end where it narrows to the standard 9mm O.D. The Carbon front hub has a 38mm hub flange diameter, with flanges spaced 73mm apart. The Carbon front spoke holes have a 33mm center circle diameter. The Nuke Proof Carbon front is available in either a 28, 32 or 36 spoke hole drilling. The Carbon hub shell core is Brown in color. Both flanges, and collars are anodized in Blue, Green, Lavender, Red, or Silver. The weight of a 32 hole Carbon front is 91.5 grams. No longer made it sold for $69.99
A second model of the above hub is made with the only change being the tubing the core is made from. Rather than being carbon fiber wrapped aluminum tube, the core is made of Titanium tubing left un-wrapped. The Ti tubing has an outer diameter of 22.25mm which when bonded, and held by the pressed axle, (which is held by the pressed in bearings), and the locking collars is a permanent bond. Whatever dampening effect was claimed to occur in the original advertising of the Carbon fiber hubs, naturally, doesn't apply with the Ti tubing. The Ti front hub has a 38mm hub flange diameter, with flanges spaced 73mm apart. The Ti front spoke holes have a 33mm center circle diameter. The Nuke Proof Ti front is available in either a 28, 32 or 36 spoke hole drilling. The Ti hub shell core is Titanium Grey in color. Both flanges, and collars are anodized Blue, Green, Lavender, Red or Silver. There is no net weight loss with this method, the hub still weighs exactly 91.5 grams. No longer made it sold for $89.99
The Carbon Freewheel hub follows the pattern set by the previous two hubs in manufacture technique. The core is made of a carbon fiber wrapped aluminum tube generating a 22.5mm outer diameter like the Carbon front. The flanges are machined in the same fashion to accommodate exactly the same bearings that have been used on both previous hubs. The non-drive side flange of this rear hub is the same used for both of the Carbon front flanges. The drive side flange is somewhat larger in diameter and has the needed freewheel threads. After the first bearing is pressed into the flange, an aluminum tube is set inside the core having a 9.52mm inner diameter, then the second bearing is pressed the other side, closing the core. The axle is made of stainless steel. It has a 9.5mm outer diameter and a 5.6mm inner diameter. The outer surface is precision ground to make its perfectly smooth and round. The axle slides into the core through one bearing, then the through the aluminum tube and exits through the far bearing. The tolerances for all the parts is close. The axle comes in a 126mm, 130mm or 135mm length for 7 or 8 speed use. All 7 and 8 speed mountain axles have a 135mm over lock nut length. Aluminum spacing collars are used establish the amount of axle exposed on each side. Machined of aluminum, they are held in place by a tiny, recessed, 1mm hex head, set screw. The Carbon Freewheel hub has a 38mm hub flange diameter on the non-drive side, and a 53mm diameter on the drive side. The flanges are spaced 65mm apart. The Carbon Freewheel spoke holes have a 32mm center circle diameter on the non-drive side and 46mm on the drive side. The Nuke Carbon Freewheel rear is available in either a 32 or 36 spoke hole drilling. The core is Brown in color. Both flanges, and collars are anodized in Blue, Green, Lavender, Red or Silver. The weight of a 32 hole Carbon Freewheel hub is 170 grams. No longer made, it sold for $79.99
Like the Nuke Carbon front, the Carbon Freewheel is available with Titanium tubing for the hub shell core. The same 22.25mm outer diameter tubing is used. All other aspects of the Ti Freewheel hub are the same. The Ti Freewheel hub has a 38mm hub flange diameter on the non-drive side, and a 53mm diameter on the drive side. The flanges are spaced 65mm apart. The Ti Freewheel spoke holes have a 32mm center circle diameter on the non-drive side and 46mm on the drive side. The Nuke Ti Freewheel rear is available in either a 32 or 36 spoke hole drilling. The Ti core tube is Ti Grey in color. Both flanges, and collars are anodized in Blue, Green, Lavender, Red or Silver. Available in 126mm, 130mm or 135mm axle lengths, the weight of a 32 hole, 135mm Ti Freewheel hub is 170 grams. No longer made it sold for $94.99
This is the final variant of the Ti series of Nuke hubs. As with the other Titanium hubs, the shell hub core made of Carbon fiber wrapped aluminum in the hub above, has been replaced with a 22.25mm outer diameter Ti tube. All other aspects of this hub are the same as the one above. It is available in a 130mm axle with an XTR freehub mechanism for use as an 8 speed Road hub, or with a 135mm axle using an XTR freehub mechanism for mountain bike use. The 135mm, 8 speed will accept CS-M737, HG-90, or M-900 speed cassettes. For 7 speed, the HG-50, HG-60 or HG-90 7 speed. The Ti Freehub rear has a 38mm hub flange diameter on the non-drive side, and a 54mm diameter on the drive side. The flanges are spaced 56mm apart. The Ti Freehub spoke holes have a 32mm center circle diameter on the non-drive side and 48mm on the drive side. The Nuke Ti Freehub rear is available in either a 32 or 36 spoke hole drilling. The Ti core tube is Titanium Grey in color. Both flanges, and collars are anodized in Blue, Green, Lavender, Red or Silver. The weight of a 32 hole Ti Freehub with a 135mm axle is 293.5 grams. Please specify the axle length, and then the desired gearing, as well as hole drilling and color. No longer made this hub sold for $224.99
